A Keith Urban cut, A #1 Song, A CMA Award, A Grammy or an Oscar in the kindest way possible. I suggested lowering the bar just a tad – if only temporarily. I’m a HUGE believer in goal setting. I believe that doing it the right way motivates and drives people to succeed. But, having a list of goals that even very successful people might not ever meet is only going to keep you frustrated. So, I suggested re-working his list and we came up with some goals like: Get a song recorded by an independent artist, Find two new artists that I believe in to write with, Write with someone who has a writing deal Those goals are attainable for anyone that is willing to work really hard and be patient. Every one of you reading this could make that happen given enough time and effort. And, those things are the steps that lead to the bigger goals and opportunity. Making a list of attainable goals will keep you going when times are hard. Because you KNOW you can achieve them, you don’t get as disappointed when you fail. You just keep marching along and trying different ways to reach the goal. When you reach one of your goals, you replace it with something slightly bigger, yet still realistic. One day you look back at a long list of goals met and you see how far you have come. Make those goals realistic and work your butt off to make them happen. That’s the ticket to success.
