As for me, I use blogging as a utility to generate a fan base for our music label. It affords me a creative outlet to discuss things that are important to me: my failures, my successes, trials and errors, overcoming obstacles and persevering to just simply sharing and acquiring knowledge and there is a definite benefit in that. I don't believe there should be a specific formula to blogging because it takes away the element of spontaneity and authenticity. The way I see it is that if you have something interesting to share, just blog about it. It's that simple. With respect to inserting images in my blogs it's almost a must for me. As a graphic designer (beside being a music producer), I almost feel committed to the idea of having a photograph as an integral part of my blog. Again, this is just my preference and my way of sedimentation a point or adding visual closure if you will. Pardon the pun, but by adding a photograph it undoubtedly gives the reader a clearer picture allowing them to better identify themselves with the aforementioned material. A photograph is an extension of myself and a wonderful ice breaker for those who wish to commission me for work or those who just simply want to exchange heartfelt dialogue. I guess it gives people a better sense of my values in life, personality, artistic techniques as a producer or graphic designer or even credibility. Blogging has assisted me in launching successful campaigns, communicating with my clients and above all sustaining my business a whole. The only thing I can counsel you current or future bloggers on is this; try maintaining an organic process and keep working on developing a voice in whatever community you would like to address. I'm not here trying to impress anyone, and neither should you. I'm just here to share a part of me with all of you, you can subscribe to it or not that's the beauty of it! So just enjoy it and blog away.
